FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Plastering & Dry Lining FAQs

How long does wet plaster take to dry before I can paint?▼

Freshly skimmed walls usually take 3 to 7 days to dry completely depending on humidity and ventilation. Once fully dried (turning a uniform pale pink), a diluted mist coat of emulsion paint must be applied first before full paint coats.

Can you skim directly over existing wallpaper or old paint?▼

Plaster cannot be applied directly over wallpaper as it will cause bubbling and detachment. All wallpaper must be stripped first. Painted walls can be skimmed after applying a high-adhesion blue grit bond primer.

What is the difference between wet plastering and dry lining?▼

Wet plastering involves applying wet backing coats and skim plaster directly to brick or blockwork. Dry lining involves attaching plasterboard sheets to walls using adhesive or studs, which is faster and dries much quicker.

How do you manage dust during plastering and surface prep?▼

We seal off work zones with dust sheets and polythene screening, protect all floor coverings, and use dust-extracted sanding tools where minimal sanding is required.
